The Nan'ao Science Conference, hosted by Guangdong Science and Technology Department and Shantou Municipal People's Government, and organized by Guangdong Basic and Applied Basic Research Foundation and GTIIT was launched.
GTIIT is listed in the "Guangdong High Level University Development Program". Four disciplines, including Materials Science and Engineering, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering are listed as key disciplines.

A five-party meeting on the preparation for establishment was held jointly by Shantou Government, GTIIT(Prep.), STU, Technion, and LKSF.

Vice Premier Liu Yandong expressed her appreciation for the preparation of GTIIT during her visit to Israel.
LKSF donated 130 million USD as a catalyst for encouraging Technion to establish GTIIT in Shantou.
Guangdong and Shantou governments committed a funding of 900 million RMB in support of GTIIT’s initial operations.
