Recently, students from Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) immersed themselves in a series of social practice activities. They visited the solemn court, delved into an ancient village with a long history, and explored a vibrant community, demonstrating the responsibilities and commitments inherent in GTIIT youth.

GT Students Visit the Intermediate People's Court

Recently, teachers and students from GTIIT visited the Intermediate People's Court of Shantou City, embarking on an immersive legal practice journey through on-site visits and simulated trials.

The group toured the court's history museum, cultural corridor and youth legal education base, learning about the court's history, cultural construction and the functions of courtroom facilities, gaining a more comprehensive understanding of the court's basic functions and work processes. They further explored the court's initiatives and achievements in deepening the protection of young people's legal rights, and strengthening the prevention and management of juvenile delinquency. The authority and warmth of the judiciary was well delivered to the students.

With a crisp gavel sound, a simulated trial for a robbery case began. GTIIT students took the stage as presiding judges, judges, clerks, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and defendants. Under the guidance of court officers, the "presiding judge" proceeded in an orderly manner through legal procedures such as court investigation, evidence presentation, court debate and the defendant's final statement.

At the end of the trial, court officers emphasized the importance of abiding by laws, avoiding risks, correctly asserting rights, and saying "no" to illegal activities, encouraging students to contribute their youthful energy to building a rule-of-law society.

The first visit to the court gave students a new perspective on judicial work, with comments like "very rigorous and meticulous". "The most impressive part was today's trial; I didn't realize how close criminal behavior is to our lives before. Only by learning the law well can we better follow it," said one of the students.

GT Students Visited Caochi Community 

Recently, GTIIT Youth League Committee collaborated with the Outing Street in Longhu District to launch a civilization activity in Caochi Community.

The activity brought together GTIIT students from the 2022 Cohort of Mechanical Engineering Program and was led by the community cadres. They toured the community and learned about its meticulous management, which emphasized achieving the best results with minimal resources, reflecting a principle focused on thriftiness and efficiency.

Community cadres explained that the cleanliness and beauty of the community are due to the joint maintenance of residents there. The arrangement of potted plants and the beautification of public areas are results of cooperation and harmony among neighbors. This not only enhances the overall image of the community, but also gives people a stronger sense of belonging and happiness.

The participating students conveyed that this activity made them feel the meticulousness and warmth of grassroots governance and deepened their understanding of the collaborative and shared community-building concept. "Only by working together can we build a better community."

GT Students Visited the Ligongkeng Village

Recently, a team made up of members of GTIIT League branch visited Ligongkeng She Ethnic Village in Chaozhou City. Their on-site research into She culture forged a close bond between GTIIT and the local village, injecting new vitality into the inheritance and development of She culture.

Ligongkeng Village, located in Wenci Town, Chao'an District, Chaozhou City, is a beautiful village suitable for living and ecological preservation, and also the birthplace of She ethnic group. As soon as one steps into the village, everything seemed to come alive.

Under the guidance of village cadres, GTIIT teachers and students visited the She Ethnic Culture Exhibition Hall, learning about local history and traditions, appreciating the symbolic meanings of traditional She weaving patterns, the melodiousness of She songs, and the unique charm of She clothing. Among them, the sacred Recruitment Festival, a traditional folk celebration held every three to five years, stands as a tribute to the ancestors.

It's a rewarding visit which provided GTIIT students with a profound realization of the pivotal role their English proficiency can play in the international dissemination of She culture and the promotion of Chinese traditional heritage.
